Rock Climbing in Trinidad

As the title suggests, the first activity we are going to discuss is rock climbing! Why rock climbing? Because that's what I'm doing next weekend and I'm excited :)

I bet you guys were expecting me to list something like a trip to the Pitch Lake or some other simple thing. That's what you get for making assumptions: the title of this blog is Things To DO In Trinidad, not things to SEE...now I expect no more assumptions from any you (except the assumption that I am awesome and Trinidad is beautiful, you won't be wrong there)

Right, so rock climbing. Now in Trinidad one can embark on either indoor or outdoor rock climbing. If you're a beginner (which you probably are if rock climbing in Trinidad is news to you), indoor rock climbing is advised as your starting point. You can get practice with rented gear rather than investing your in your own, you're not exposed to the elements, it's the better choice because I say it is...

Rock climbing is great if you're looking to get in shape (for the beach, for Carnival, for your honeymoon, for whatever reason just lose those love handles!) Rock climbing brings you that leaner, stronger, more graceful body that will make your partner think twice about cheating on you with their hot co-worker.

I promised info on how to access these activities didn't I? Yes, I did. Rock climbing in Trinidad is not well publicized...meaning you may find it difficult to find  (unless you're lucky...or special...or this post is outdated and rock climbing is now popular in Trinidad). So I have only one concrete reference for you: Adventure Seekers. I'll be referring to them a lot actually, so just go ahead and remember them now. You can check them out on Facebook : www.facebook.com/adventureseekerstt . Also there are several local gyms that have indoor rock climbing walls, but since their names escape me at the moment, I will leave that in the capable hands of the Adventure Seekers team.

If you do decide to go rock climbing, some quick advice. Wear clothing that is not restrictive and won't get in the way. It should breathe and manage moisture. Choose shoes that provide friction and fits snug (but not painfully tight!). And as with all forms of physical exercise, please keep yourself properly hydrated.

Now you have your first Trini adventure. Happy rockclimbing!
